During 2005, all the development work carried out by the Group was either inside the boundaries of existing sites or on reclaimed brown field sites. Careful consideration is always given to the environmental impact of all our quarry development and site restoration projects.

The Group is working with The Wildlife Trust to introduce the Biodiversity Benchmark at our Maltby factory. While strengthening relationships with the local community, this has encouraged a wide range of biodiversity and in particular bird life on the site.

The Ringstone Reservoir bird preserve project, near Halifax, was part funded by Marshalls and is now complete. It is a purpose built wetland area with an observation tower hide built entirely by volunteers.
