Building Research Establishment – The Green Guide to Specification

The most authoritative document listing the environmental impact on a range of hard landscape and construction materials is the Building Research Establishment’s The Green Guide to Specification. This provides data for specifiers, designers and their clients on the relative Environmental Profiles of over 300 elemental product specifications.

Environmental Profiles, which are calculated using Life Cycle Assessment, allow designers to demand reliable and comparable environmental information about competing building materials and specification, enabling them to construct more environmentally friendly buildings.

The output of an Environmental Profile assessment is often an individual Ecopoint score for a material. Different materials are then compiled on an elemental level and the resulting Ecopoint scores translated into Green Guide ratings to enable easy comparison between different element specifications.
